Connecting to Excel on FTP #2039
User question:

>Can CardExchange fetch a database file in xls format from a websserver or from a FTP server? If yes, then how. I can't get it to work in the database definition setup...

Answer: CardExchange connections to Excel and Access are based on Microsoft´s OleDb drivers for those products. Unfortunately, these do not support connections to URL's, so your database file cannot be connected to if it is located on an FTP server or on the internet.

When connecting to Excel/Access, there are three ways to specify your file location:
  • With a relative file name, in which case the file is assumed to be inside the CardExchange data folder. This is the recommended solution if the file is exclusively used by CardExchange.
  • With an absolute file name that starts with a drive letter (for example C:\CardExchange DB\MyData.xlsx).
  • With an absolute file name that starts with a server name (for example \\myserver\CardExchange DB\MyData.xlsx).
